hanging around
not doing

to help the helpless
world along
then a merlin
perfectly itself
ended on the hoop
of the raised bed
dormant in its winter sleep
come quick, I called you
and you came
to admire the unexpected
and as we exclaimed
about our luck
the elegant hawk
took off
and we went back
to the usual
afternoon’s life
