Once,
as a teenager
I was in Mycenea
at the so-called “Agamemnon’s Tomb”
too young, or too old
to truly love
that citadel of stone
my father rushing us
back to the minibus
and on
to somewhere else
I remember the air full of bees
being afraid
in a hive-shaped passageway
as they buzzed
guarding the past
and from my innocent eyes
the hem of Helen’s dress
