UNDER THREAT

UNDER THREAT

-         Manas Bakshi (India)

Rhythmic rain

Enrapturing a quaint landscape

Far away from

The Amazon rain forest

Sketches your face;

The strawberry mark

Prominent on your right cheek

Always you grumble to bear with

Emblems a bumble-bee

On a white lotus

When the earth's rain washed.

Unable to speak your mind

Before a solitary tree

You think your reticence's identified with,

You turn towards

The adjoining vast lake

Awaiting the migratory birds

In non-stop flight

Day in, day out---

The ocean-deep maze

Of all that's intangible

They  brave outright....

Wind scrawls invigorating words

On their wings,

Weather favours they reach one day the land

Where it rains amid sunshine.....

Bardic your mind's struck:

Neither the tranquil lake

Nor the gracious tree

A safe refuge anymore

For the winged beauty!

No myth, nothing fabricated--

Truth is

Silence of the tree in your mind,

Truth is

Silence of the lake in your eyes;

Greedy marauders everywhere

Are often disguised,

Sufferers' fortitude has always

The blade of light to fight and survive.
