MUD
IN ITS WAY
-
Miriam Sagan (U.S.A.)
mud in its way in shallow seas
might foretell
sandstone’s compression, heavy-weighted
crush of shells that once
could open and close at will
or curve like moon-shaped moons
of mother-of pearl
a Fibonacci sequence
like you and me regressing in time
although isn’t time
just me and you,
heartbeats
wondering what makes a pearl
grain of sand in the oyster shaped like a moon
as gravity exerts its heavy-weighted
pull--a force that might foretell
how cosmos moves our seas
