Anju Makhija is an award-winning poet, translator, playwright & scriptwriter. She is the author of several books incl. Seeking the Beloved, a co-translation of the 16th century Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif; Pickling Season; View from the Web; The Last Train and other plays. She has also co-edited a 3-volume series of Indo English drama and anthologies related to partition, women and children readers.
Anju’s awards include The
BBC World Regional
Poetry Prize, The Sahitya Akademi English Translation
Prize and The
Charles Wallace Fellowship. She was on the English Advisory Board of the Sahitya
Akademi for 5 years and is currently an Advisory Member of World Peace Wing, G-100. Anju is also
the co-founder/curator of the Pondicherry/Auroville
Poetry Festival.
Her most recent book is ‘Mumbai Traps: collected plays’. She is
currently translating the work of 17th century Sufi poet, Sachal
Sarmast. Her book, ‘Changing, Unchanging: New & Selected Poems’ is
forthcoming.
