Dr. Subhashis Banerjee
is Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Nagaland University (A
Central University), Kohima Campus. His research traverses postcolonial theory,
indigenous cultural studies, gender and performance, and Indian Knowledge
Systems, with a focus on Northeast India. He has developed a distinctive
interdisciplinary approach that explores the interface between literature, oral
traditions, and socio-political memory among tribal communities such as the
Nyishi, Adi, Puroik, and Chakma. Dr Banerjee’s work critically engages with
questions of identity, marginality, decolonisation, and ecological consciousness,
particularly in the context of travel narratives, native epistemologies, and
gendered storytelling. His recent scholarship investigates performativity and
feminist resistance in tribal literature, alongside the reclamation of space
and agency in indigenous poetic forms. A passionate educator and active
research supervisor, he consistently promotes region-based academic inquiry
that bridges traditional humanities with contemporary debates in cultural
politics and pedagogy. His published work spans peer-reviewed journals, edited
volumes, and academic anthologies addressing themes such as eco-aesthetics,
intercultural dialogue, and the legacy of thinkers like Swami Vivekananda
within postcolonial and transcultural frameworks.
