Prakash Barai is an Assistant Professor in English in the Department of
Applied Science and Humanities at Global Institute of Management and
Technology, Krishnanagar, Nadia, West Bengal. He holds a deep scholarly
interest in the intersections of gender studies, film studies, postcolonial
theory, and subaltern resistance. His academic pursuits are driven by a
commitment to examining how literature and cinema function as critical sites
for exploring the politics of representation, especially in relation to
marginalized voices and historical trauma. Through his research, Barai
investigates the complex dynamics of gendered roles, structural violence,
identity formation, and power hierarchies, with a particular focus on
postcolonial societies and their cinematic and literary expressions. He is
especially interested in how cultural texts articulate resistance—both subtle
and overt—against hegemonic norms, offering space for alternative narratives
and subversive subjectivities. His work often engages with interdisciplinary
methods, drawing from critical theory, cultural studies, and comparative
literature to analyze how texts from different geopolitical contexts resonate
with themes of displacement, erasure, and resilience.
