Touch

Dr. Soumyajit Samanta (Indian Poet)
Former Professor of English
University of North Bengal
Darjeeling, West Bengal, India

Don’t touch.
Don’t touch my files.
Don’t touch my secrets.
Don’t touch my emotions.
Don’t touch me.
Don’t touch my lips.
Much!
My request isn’t much.
I don’t hate you so much.
My life doesn’t amount to much.
I don’t touch you much.
Well, don’t think much.
Dutch!
Tonight let’s go dutch,
While Enrique is on the clutch
and his heart beats such.
Even,
the blow of your arms
lacks percussion.
Your life
wants under standing
as it hides my downfall
in the folds of your silence.
Should have kept hidden.
Don’t force me to touch.
Yet it’s sad to see
the lungs’ collapse.
Don’t touch.
