FLOWER ISLANDS
-
Mike Jenkins (U.K.)
All along the shoreline
Are clusters of flowers
Between dunes and tideline
Tiny oases I cannot name -
Some stems succulent like rock
cacti
Others spidery as thyme -
Each one an island
Our feet ferry between -
Each bearing gifts and cargoes
To the seeking bees -
How deep the roots must reach
So many tongues pass by them.
