TAMARIND TREE
-
Daya Dissanayake (Sri Lanka)
Do I not have
A right to life
On Mother Earth?
To grow on an open land
Not occupied by
The most invasive species
I survived from germination
To a giant tree
Offering shade
Food for the birds and monkeys
Even the inhuman beings
What right had they
To chop me up into pieces
What crime did I commit
To deserve a death sentence?
