Beaches have receded

like hair on balding heads.

Fishermen venture with nets.

Surfers ride tidal surges,

a brave few aspire

without safety vests.

Living once meant

being in the moment.

Now we seek blessings

of divine elements.

        Some say,

the earth prepares

to receive heaven,

spirits descend

to embrace matter.

The downpour keeps us in,

searching for our God.

        He is not ours.

Fishermen break coconuts,

celebrating their God.

        He is theirs.

The rain-drenched earth

erases mud pathways.

Matrimandir remains
