BAPTISM BY FIRE
-
Sudeep Kumar Roy Choudhury (India)
PART 1
The aberration of this moral world,
To the deathly Himalayan ranges,
Where the blood stained wheels of time,
Completes it’s full cycle on our frosted
torsos.
It was last night-
When the glowing torches and the crescent orb
abed in the firmament,
Seems to me as silent and bare;
Beneath this welkin’s cloak,
Me my troops march,
Hark! That yonder point-
Fire-
Huge loaded deadly cannons bare out its fatal
teeth,
High raised billows of fire burn out these
floating fleecy racks,
These winter droplets burn to smutty fire
balls,
Bombard this metal heath;
One by one men were dropping dead,
Forward!!
Lie in dust as mortals fighting for
immortality,
The blood streams through these earthy veins
clogged,
Chocked the wheels of time-
PART 2
Through an arch of golden beams,
I see, gory visages begrimed with blood and
mud-
The blood flows from a sanguine sabre,
Soils the scared sand grains of my
motherland-
The vision of sordid shadowy images of death
Crawling, petrifies my soul-
I killed many men,
Knowing not who were they-
I ask – who am I?
A taper what a man life is,
Flame of whose is his Calibre,
But in dawn –
Shall leave its Chivalry.
