A NUMBER
-
Anuradha
Bhattacharyya (India)
I have tried to live
Without numbers.
Ten comes from our fingers,
A dozen from the hours,
Two comes from halves and
Everything in opposites;
I tried to live without numbers
But never could make it.
The routine comes to square meals,
The fare comes to equals,
The pests come in multitudes,
The remedy is scarce.
I tried to do away with numbers
But ended up with a zero.
